Northern Beaches - Pittwater
 |
Theory and practical venue:
Royal Motor Yacht Club
Prince Alfred Parade, Newport. |
The Pittwater centre is operated at The Royal Motor Yacht in Newport, at the southern end of the beautiful Pittwater, right in amongst The Ku-ringai National Park.
As with North Sydney, the day starts at 9.00am in the Horseshoe Bay room inside the club, where we'll do the two theory sessions in the classroom and the boat licence test. Morning tea is provided in between.
Lunch can be purchased from the club bistro, which provides a sumptuous Lunch and students can enjoy the magnificent club facilities during the day.
After lunch, meet the instructor at the boat, which will be in the Marina directly in front of the club, and depart on the practical session .
We are particularly lucky in the location of this Venue and marina setting as 100 yards from our marina is the perfect area to learn how to be safe on the water. Students can see firsthand every type of navigational marker and hazard. The channels are well lit for night navigation classes and there is plenty of activity for us to practice real life situations.
Plenty of free car parking is available at the top of the yacht club. Meet the instructor at the club's main entrance at 8.45am to start the course at 9.00am.

Practical departs from:
Governor Phillip Park,
George St, Windsor. |
The Hawkesbury River location is highly suited to water-ski enthusiasts for its totally calm waters. Navigational markers and dangers are few as the waterway is narrow and suited to fisherman not wanting the hustle and bustle of the larger waterways.
The day starts at 8.30am at Windsor RSL, where we'll do the two theory sessions in the classroom and the boat licence test. Morning tea is provided in between.
The club has a bistro for a great lunch before the practical session.
After lunch, meet the instructor at the boat ramp at Governor Phillip Park. There is a small jetty to the right hand side of the ramp, a short 100m walk down the track through the bushes and you will find it easily.
Parking at both the club and the boat ramp is free and in great supply. |

Just like Middle Harbour, this location feels as though you're miles from the hustle and bustle of Sydney Harbour. No need to worry about ferries and container ships here because there aren't any.
You can join the trainer to observe the launch and/or retrieval of the training vessel, see how it's done and maybe pick up a few tips.
Parking at both venues is plentiful and the scenery along the Georges River wonderful. Meet the instructor at the club's main entrance at 9.45am to start the course at 10.00am.

Lunches at the centre are fantastic value and taste terrific. Then it's down to the lake to launch the boat for the practical session.
Less than 5 minutes away from the Leisure centre on the northern shores of Chipping Norton Lake. This waterway is always busy and has an almost never ending collection of navigational features for students to deal with.
